Carpe diem

Had some sad news today. A boss of mine from years back died yesterday of a massive heart attack at the second tee of his local golf course. He played golf a lot, used to organise "X's Golf Days" for friends and colleagues. Indeed, he had been playing with some of them on Friday and was fit and well. He and I were poles apart in our way of working, he dashed about like a whirling dervish, I tend to take the "let's read it properly and think about it a bit first" approach. Together we were a good team! Maddening to work for but a lovely chap. He was always lean and fit, but yes, you could say he was the classic heart-attack victim stereotype in his work-style. He didn't even reach 60. He had put off taking early retirement from BT because he was paying his mother's care home fees. Unfortunately, he didn't live to her great age. At least he'd had a couple of years out of the rat race.

Makes you think.............
